wo de pi gu tong

Today I fell fucking hard on my butt while skating. It will definitely bruise. I fell because I skated over some litter(CHOPSTICKS WTF) and it got trapped in my wheels or something and my legs flew up front and I landed on my butt. I couldn't move for 10 s from the impact. Maybe this means I have to lose weight(less potential energy) but my butt fats lessened the impact so maybe I should just go gain weight and sooner or later I won't even need safety padding for my knees and elbows!! After the fall, I sat there for 5 minutes not doing anything and this young boy+his maid passed by and stared at me oddly. Later on, I saw the boy at shop and save(felt quite creepy because I knew where he lived).
Anyway now my butt is really sore.

Flaming Lips!

Wayne Coyne in a ball
This was a few weeks back(11/11/10) but I just got my roll developed this week heh heh. And yes I shot these with an lc-a because I am awkward like that. Anyway lesson learnt: don't. My Vampire weekend & Raveonettes shots were fuzzy and blurry and makes it v obvious that I have lousy stable hands. But the flaming lips was a bright bright BRIGHT show so these turned out fine! So the above and the next picture is WAYNE IN A HUMAN HAMSTER BALL.
Wayne Coyne in a ball 2.0
Happiest moment of my life
And this was pretty much the happiest moment of my year life.

Yeah, it really was an awesome night.

Hi

1. Jesse Eisenberg does not look like Michael Cera.
Michael Cera looks like a teenage mutant turtle. On the other hand, Jesse Eisenberg is a very attractive young man.

2. 2011 is gonna be awesome
  • 29 January - Laneway. Foals, Holy Fuck, Yeasayer etc etc!!!
  • 24 March - M! G! M! T!
And I trust they'll be many, many more awesomeness adding to the above! SO! EXCITED! 2010 was pretty good already, 2011 is gonna be even better. :")

3. Christmas wishlist!
A Nook!
Agent Shaw(Brandon Routh)
Yeah that's all.

Lila Burns

I really should be doing some schoolwork of some sort now but I can't really put my finger on what I should be doing(maybe it's just my brain ignoring them) so here's some Lila Burns! She is super awesome, and if I were a major record company, I'll sign her on RIGHT. NOW.

I can has new book!

Yay new book! I'm not always this excited about getting a new book but this time it justified because I haven't been reading since school started. Neglecting my kinokuniya card makes me a sad person. Now I just need to figure out how to fit book-reading time in between the assignments and school readings. Definitely not this weekend because I've got to work ._.

So yes this is all I want to say in this post.

(Check out my stubby fingers y'all)

Honey in the hair

I fill my mouth up with air, honey in the hair
I fill my life up with time, asleep in the vine, whiskey and wine
Who makes the wind blow, I don't care, my eyes roll back in my head
I'm just walking in circles I see the lines in chalk on the ground
One day this will all come down
Someday this will all come crashing right down
So go on with your life we will bring you down

Caught Sandcastle by Boo Junfeng yesterday and I liked it!!! Its really different from local films we're used to(eg Jack Neo and shows like... Old cow & young grass.............). Very very raw emotions, imo. A lot of thing our generation can relate to. It made me really sad about something that I can't really pin point but I found myself tearing up so many times! The overall style of the film is really good too. Reminded me of a film I caught recently, although I can't remember which (I think from JFF). Okay it's really hard to place how it touched me into words so I think whoever is reading this should just take some time off from work and school and shit and head to the cinemas to catch this. Oh, there was also like 3 secs of boobage, if that's an incentive hahahhaa.

Finally got a laptop case from hellolulu! I've always wanted to get something from hellolulu because of their happy colours and really functional cases! So I'm happy about this.

Last night was also Weiling's birthday celebration + farewell party! I went pretty late but it was quite fun! Caught up with people from Crescent I haven't met in ages! And there was cake haha I like cake. Didn't get to speak much to Weiling! (HELLO WEILING HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOPE YOU LIKE THE PRESENT HAVE FUN IN DUBLIN SEE YOU IN DECEMBER) Ms Pham was there and she was really funny! During Weiling's (very) emotional speech, Ms Pham was like "Aiya so big already why still cry." in a completely apathetic tone hahahaha Okay It was funny at the time.

This is such a pointless entry.

P.S. Recently acquired a bunch of amusing bear pictures so they're always up there although they're completely unrelated to the contents of my posts. But bears always make things better.

Week 4

Okay it's week 4 of university life. I quite like how everything's going so far. I like 3 out of my 5 modules a lot and the other 2 are so-so. Okay my GEM1004 is not so-so. I think it's pretty great but it intimidates me to extreme extents. It likes to creep up into my thoughts and increase my stress levels by 600%. I just don't think I'm made for philosophical thought. :( BUT I AM TRYING MY BEST. MY. BEST. History is interesting but I hate my tutorials. Sociology is so... boring... but I like my tutorials! I think my favourite modules are EU1101E and JS2228! But readings for them are a bitch.

Today I photocopied a whole bunch of pages from an RBR book. Livin' the NUS life right there!

JFF 2010

For this whole week, I spent most of my nights at the national museum's gallery theater, volunteering for the Japanese film festival. And I got to catch films for freeee. (I don't always do this sort of things by the way, James Hill was my first) So I caught 9 films in total, from last friday.
Good for nothing(ろくでなし) was my first film, and I'm guessing that it's the first ever full-length-ed black and white film I've caught. It was... pretty interesting. It wasn't exactly traditional not was it very contemporary. I liked the dialogues, how it didn't bring out emotions too evidently, like you had to think a little into it before you got it. I thought it ended a little abruptly but I thought the last scene was very good in all in tragedy and etc etc etc. On Monday I caught A Stranger of Mine(運命じゃない人) which I enjoyed very very much! It was really, really funny and I think the director was brilliant! I liked the first scenario the best. :D Tuesday was Water Flower(水の花). I... couldn't get it. Apparently it used a lot of imagery and etc. I liked some scenes like when the little girl was dancing in the rain. But overall I think the movie was too draggy for me. "Very inanimate camera work with occasional panning, the stillness of the film is deliberate in an attempt to express without words Minako's mentality as a resenting teenager. The camera proximity was pretty alienating too. This really depends on subjectivity of each audience member." - J-son Folio on facebook (hahaha) SO YEAH, IT WAS WAY TOO DEEP FOR ME. But I really liked it when I found out 'water flower' actually refers to the reflection of the girl's lipstick in the puddle of water(got this from fb also haha I am so sad).
Bare Essence of Life(ウルトラミラクルラブストーリー) was a film I was really looking forward to, and it didn't disappoint!!! Matsuyama Kenichi acted really well, considering that his role wasn't an easy one. He brought upon the idea of naivety and vibrance in Yojin very well, in my opinion. From what I read on fb page, everyone has a different take on the film. My take is that Yojin // plants in some way. How spraying pesticide on himself is the easy way out of the irregularities he face in life, and to reach his goal of winning over Machiko. And the last bit with his brain, I'm guessing brain = fruit??? The like in most plants, their fruits end up given back to nature=brain being eaten by bear? Okay I may just be over-assuming but yeah, that's my take. I was quite taken aback by Yuriko's Aroma(ユリ子のアロマ) in the first few scene because it really has quite a... perverse theme? But it was really well directed imo and I think emotions was brought across very well. And the director was there for a Q&A after the show, which was interesting. I got an impression that he is quite a... perverse person himself hahahahaha but he is pretty cool. (y) Caught Lalapipo(ララピポ) right after YA and I was quite disappointed. Knowing it was a sold out film with 2 screenings, I had quite high expectations for it. But overall the movie felt quite disjointed and jut played around a lot on the themes of sex and humour of disfunctionalities in the Japanese society without much depth. It's a hahaha laugh at movie, walk out of theater and forget about it kind of film. The only interesting thing I got out of it was that the title Lalapipo was the english phrase "A lot of people" misheard by a Japanese person.
I caught all of the following three in one afternoon, which I sort of regret(although I didn't have much of a choice) because 3 movies a times is just too much for my brain to process!!!!! But well, I liked them all very much. :D Fish Story(フィッシュストーリ) had a great sound track!!! And every scenario was very well linked! And I thought the theme of 'saving the world' was very inspiring haha although it sounds kind of lame on it own but in the context of the movie it is (y)!!! Live Tape(ライブテープ) was a very simple film but I think it's pretty much the favourite film I caught this week! Maybe it's because it's "my kind of thing" haha with the ~indie music~ and all hahahahahahaha but I really, really enjoyed the songs and the lyrics and the fact that it was filmed in a suburban part of tokyo and the passerbys with their awkward stares and how down-to-earth everything was. I am now such a fan of Maeno Kenta, and after what Gavin said after the film, I really wanna catch Maeno Kenta and the David Bowies(hahahaha) live in Japan!!!! V sad that I couldn't get the DVD because it sold out before the show ended?!!? I loved the songs!!!! Esp Tofu and Weather forecast!!!!!!!! K moving on now. I'm thinking that Air Doll(空気人形) was the most anticipated film of the whole festival, and it really didn't disappoint! It was really beautifully made. And it felt really original although it's a slightly recycled theme(Pinocchio, A.I. - Inanimate object gains a human heart). It made me feel so much!!! Although I was quite confused by how the guy died at the end with just a small wound... and why he didn't say anything?!?!?!(quite annoyed by that) But overall, great film. Totally recommended to everyone!!!!!!!

Yay long, wordy post.
Anyway the images are ripped off from the JFF site, but I don't think anything will happen because as the band from Fish story said, 売れないから大丈夫.

James Hill!

So on Tuesday I volunteered with the Ukulele Movement to usher for the James Hill concert. It was pretty worth it because we got a free badge! and dinner! and watch the entire concert for freeeeeeee! Anyway I'll skip the boring parts and go straight to the concert. IT WAS AWESOME. James Hill is so skilled at his art! His fingers are so graceful and the notes/sounds coming from the little Ukulele are MINDBLOWING. I loved his rendition of Billie Jean(watch online HERE), 'Song for Cherry'(his own composition) and he played TECHNO on the Ukulele. I know it sounds pretty impossible but he did it(without any pedal or whatever, just a pair of chopsticks and some hockey tape). We also had audience participation(always gets my vote)!! And he signed my badge hehehehe :>
Today he had a workshop! I learnt quite a bit and am very motivated to practice and improve on my Ukulele skills now! PLUS, I GOT HIM TO SIGN MY UKULELE hehe (above)(Yes, my ukulele is screen-printed to look like a watermelon)(I think I look v cool and ~mysterious~ in the picture hahahaha)

Okay that's all.

Petite bourgeoisie

School has officially started! And I've finally settled all my modules. (I had to reshuffle a little because of the TS module which I can't take because I actually didn't fulfill its prerequisite) So now I'm taking exp modules for sociology, history and european studies, along with a philosophy GEM module and a level 2 Japanse studies module(Why? I don't know). So far we've only had lectures and they were... okay. EU seems interesting but the lectures for SC and HY were really boring. But I guess that's what awaits me for the rest of my 3/4 years in NUS - Many, many hours of boredom.

I also realised I've recently developed a really short attention span. And I tend to zone out once in a while. During SC lecture just now I zoned out for a few moments when the lecturer said something funny(i think) and when he referred to that a while later, I WAS VERY CONFUSED. And I cannot read my readings properly at all. The past 8 months have rotted my brain. D:

(Marie Antoinette picture above is there because... it was on the first slide for the EU lecture and I was really mesmerized by how pretty it was.) (Anyway do listen to Nick Chim's songs in the previous entry because I think they're all very beautiful!!!) (Like Hollywood's Marie Antoinette!)

Matooer

So my USS photos didn't turn out. Most likely due to some sticky shutter/battery problem.

Oh and I have my 5 modules for this semesters all set. Initially, I intended to take the exposure modules for sociology, history and japanese studies. But I ended up not getting the japanese studies module, and last night I found out that the eu1101e isn't exactly a history module. So I am taking 2 exposure modules, one in sociology and another in european studies/history(still not sure about what it is). Other than that I am taking heavenly mathematics(I am very excited about this) and reason&persuasion(quite nervous) for my general education modules + singapore film for my SS module.

Yay I am a freshman.

HAPPY SUBURBS DAY!

Hi friends! Today is pretty awesome because Arcade Fire is releasing their third studio album! How much I love this band is beyond words. But anywho, here's some AF spam.
(Laika is my favourite song by them, I think.(It's really hard to choose))

I remember posting a picture on my blog from this video when i first fell in love with them. This was the first song I heard from them too.
YOU CAN JUST SEE THEIR AWESOMENESS.
This video makes me cry. Every. Single. Time.
I also made 2 or more blogskins(it used to be really cool to make them when I was 14) based on this song.
Sigh I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I've spent so many hours of my teenage life listening to them and prancing around the house to them and sleeping on the bus to them and studying to them and yelling out their lyrics while alone at home and crying/sobbing/bawling to their songs. At every single concert I've been to I secretly think about how awesome it'll be if they were the ones up on stage instead(true story). I want to see them live really badly. Really. Badly.

Okay that's all for now. Hopefully I'll have a post soon with pictures from Saturday(Universal studios day).

It's all gonna break!

Broken Social Scene last night was awesome. Awesome in a sense that it kept me at awe. Although I haven't heard all the songs from their new album but still, they took me to a happy place. At one point, Kevin(Lead singer) went into the audience. Like just, hopped onto the floor. And everyone was all :o and hugging him and :o-ing some more. But there was this annoying girl who was trying to stuff her camera into his face or something, and you know what Kevin did????(I personally would've grabbed the camera from her and brutally smashed it into her skull but,) He took the camera and took a picture with her. ;_; Such a beautiful soul. Then he took pictures with another 20 or so people. While singing. IDK why but I was very touched although I was all the way on the third floor balcony. And it was such a loong and fruitful concert. Hate it very much when performers end after 1 and a half hour. They played a full 2 and a half hours and it was 2 and a half hours of bliss. I left the concert hall very happy. (Sorry about the grainy picture but that's the only thing my phone was able to take. Anyway considering the amount of DSLRs at the concert hall I's think the flickr BSS photo pool(assuming there is one) will be happily growing with pictures from last night)

Anyway Mercury prize nominees were announced last week and I sure do hope Mumford & Sons get it because their album is very good(understatement). Okay I must admit I haven't heard of most of the albums nominated but of the 3 I know(The xx, Laura Marling) I think M&S is the most deserving! But of course no one actually cares for my opinion.

Sunday, July 25, 2010

I am really annoyed by NUS Myisis(Stupid thing to say out loud). I can't print out my giro form on Chrome because it can't process it and I tried using IE and the page doesn't. even. load. Okay I bet no one cares about the trivialities of my life but considering how mundane my life is, this is quite an event.

Today I vacuumed the floor of the house voluntarily due to how terribly bored I was. And I found 2 dead cockroaches around the house. This means that my house is really disgusting such that is not not even adequate for cockroach survival. How very disturbing, since cockroaches survived and thrived for 320 million years.

I am currently eating:
It has been quite a while since I've had some. There was once a time in my life that I was completely addicted to this cereal, and I had it every morning without fail for around 3 months. Then my mom decided to not buy it because of rising prices, and the next time I had it, I decided I didn't like it anymore.

I wanted to go out to spend some money today but I decided on staying at home to watch Atonement. Sloth, a poor girl's best friend. Anyway here I am, watching Running with Scissors instead. And I think if I had a movie about my life, I'd have Alec Baldwin act as my dad too. Telling everyone that Alec Baldwin is my Dad(kinda, in a sense) would be awesome stuff.

360deg

Ah, Lomography has a new camera, the spinner 360 and the pictures are awesome! I want very much but it will most likely end up unused after a few rolls. But these pictures are so cool, it's pretty much the horizon kompakt's awesomeness multiplied by around 7.
Right up there in my wishlist!!!!!!!
Pictures from here!

Void

I am really apologetic for my lack of posts for the past few weeks! I honestly have nothing to post about, considering that work has consumed my life and there is hardly anything worth telling the interwebs about. But! Work ends in 11 days and I'll start living again!

The past 2 days I spent doing 2 things. Reading and watching documentaries.

I read '36 arguments for the existence of God: a work of fiction' by Rebecca Goldstein and enjoyed it very much. The book left me feeling smarter and wanting to become smarter! Recommended many times over.

National Geographic and Discovery channels were my best friends! Whale, polar bears, killer jellyfish, hammerhead sharks, prehistoric crocodiles(they fed on dinosaurs!!!), Kazakhstan, Venice, unhealthy American food, gorillas, giant octopus. (Y) I love documentaries.
