A youthful orange revolting in clockwork

I really do watch quite a number of movies.

Caught 'A clockwork orange' a few nights back and I was impressed! It is seriously one of the best book-turned-movies I've ever watched. Although most of the scenarios were very different from what I've previously envisioned when I was reading the book but everything was pretty awesome(I really didn't expect everything to be so 70s). I loved the brilliant acting, the great use of music to accompany the violent scenes and especially how it left me feeling quite terrible. (Y)

And to keep up my whole Michael Cera streak I've watched another one! I don't know why but the more I watch him on screen the more he looks like a potato instead of a turtle. Anyway I still enjoyed 'Youth in Revolt' very much! Michael Cera did well in this one! The screenplay to this film was BRILLIANT. I'm not one who actually laughs out loud when I watch shows but this one had me going for quite a while. It has some really, really funny one-liners. And Michael Cera gets the girl once again in this film, but it's finally due to his efforts(as compared to N&N when the girl falls in love with him at first sight. HOW DO YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH A POTATO?). (Y), once again!

(Yes, all I do on this weblog is review movies in a mediocre manner) (I'm sorry)

HCMcity!

Just booked 3 nights stay at a bed&breakfast in Ho Chi Minh City!!!!! Yay holiday!

Plus check out my cute friends:
(Yes my fb is in pirate language)

In other news, Dixin got accepted in FASS too!!!!! So that makes the 3 of us and I AM SO GLAD. Good times coming along now.

On MC

So I caught 2 Michael Cera films recently. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and Paperheart.

I caught N&N last night and I was really disappointed. It was really forgettable and the only thing I liked about it was the soundtrack. I especially disliked the whole, let's put a random band into a scene really unneccesarily and announce their names out loud so people would realise they're there and make this movie really cool with loads of indie cred! They used Bishop Allen. (Also occured in Skins, and in their case, Crystal Castles) Other than that, the movie was so bland! I was quite excited about it a year ago when it first came out(although i didn't watch it then) and that was just efforts wasted on my part. >:(

Paperheart was much better though. I've loved Charlyne Yi since the day she went on Conan(!) and was really funny and awkward and downright adorable. And yeah, she was like that in the film. I liked what the story was based on, the whole fake-documentary thing. I just didn't like the michael Cera parts.

Okay so here's what I actually want to comment about: Michael Cera. Honestly, I do not get him. I liked him in arrested development and his appeal kinda ended there. His awkward, dorky thing is cute to watch for a while, but film after film he does the SAME THING. And I fail to understand how he gets parts in movies where girls are actually attracted to him(hot girls, at that. See:N&N) because he looks a lot like a turtle to me. I don't see why he is getting so much fame!!!!!! Stupid turtle boy.

Rocks

When I was 13, I thought I was really cool because I listened to weird music. One day, we had to introduce ourselves during a music lesson. I introduced myself and added, "And I like Industrial Rock!(The likes of MSI etc)". The teacher paused for a moment and said, "Maybe next time you can bring some to class to show us." She thought I liked rocks. From industrial areas. Industrial rocks.

Justice is waiting

Watched Eagle Vs Shark last night. It is the cutest movie ever with the BEST SCENES. Honestly, movies nowadays aren't very funny because all the best writers are in NEW ZEALAND. Who would've guessed?! Anyway I kinda knew my favourite scenes before I watched the movie since I've had the OST since last year, and they put some great lines as recordings in the soundtrack.
Here's my favourite:
Man on phone: D'you want to leave a message?
Jarrod: Tell him that justice is waiting for him.
Man on phone: ...Waiting for you. OK Justin. Thank you. Bye bye.
[hangs up]
Jarrod: No, justice. Justice.
Okay it doesn't sound that funny but seriously my favourites lines from the movie.

Other than that, I watched Control last night too. It was beautiful.

And I woke up this morning to watch an hour of Kill Bill Vol 1(Tarantino first thing in the morning, great idea!). Also caught Shutter Island with Adilah at night. Very troubling film.

I think I like movies.

With no power comes no responsibility

Caught Kickass on friday and it was.. pretty badass. The movie was great fun but it was such a terrible experience because I was sitting beside this stranger who was really smelly, in the sense of midnight trains(REALLY BAD). And the people in the cinema found everything funny. I am quite anal when it comes to laughing, keeping silent, etc at the right moments and some people have NO SENSE TOWARDS ATMOSPHERE. Seriously do not get people who laugh so hard in a cinema. "Hahaha!" or "Haha that's really funny!" in a cinema is okay but "HAHAHHAAHAHAHA CHOKE COUGH COUGH HAHAHAHH *tries to muffle laughter* giggle giggle HAHAHA" is seriously, inappropriate and inconsiderate.

But yeah, the movie was badass! I like my action movies with frivolous violence, lots of blood, guns and blasts. Hit Girl(above) was the best part! And yeah, the whole coming-of-age part for the main character works too.

In other news! S21 gathering on friday followed by S18 gathering on saturday! Both were (Y). Sigh time flies. Seems like yesterday we all met each other. PAE was more than 2 years ago! Appalling. Anyway everyone is doing fine and life is a-okay and yeah don't know when we'll meet again but life is as such.

Aw, Pee Wee

Written Test and interview for NTU linguistics was alright. My essay was pretty shitty but the professor claimed my points were 'interesting'. Hope it turns out okay.

I can tell that we are gonna be friends

Finally watched my DVD of Under Great White Northern Lights today! Received it from Amazon a few days back but had to wait till today due to work. Anyway! It! Was! Awesome! I love how sincere they are at what they do, especially how the had a little side show in the towns. Bowling alleys, local bars, in buses, youth camps! Other than that, the documovie itself was very well made, in my opinion. I loved how we can finally see more of how Jack and Meg are behind the scene, and Jack is such a big brother figure in the band! Very adorable, the both of them. And boy, do they have a ton of fans in Canada. We need more fans of them here and the rest of Asia!!!!!!! I NEED TO WATCH THEM LIVE. (if they are to play for Fuji rock or Summer sonic I will seriously consider secretly travelling there alone to watch them hohoho)

Gah. Working at Scotts tomorrow and they're so strict about everything! >:( My small bag cannot fit my book and my wallet. And I'll be alone for breaks!!!!! Oh man I miss my work friends.

Sunday, April 4, 2010

I've been working since last monday, at my usual place. But this time I made new friends, and it was pretty fun! (Previously it was all aunties.) Not too sure about how much we'll keep in contact with one another but we had some good times.

I had a good week.

In other news, I've gotten my acceptance letter for NUS FASS! (Yes, i wanted to study in Japan but goddammit money doesn't rain from the clouds) Quite an exciting prospect considering that Chmel, Joyce Tan and Amelia both got their acceptance there too. Can't wait to start studying again!!!!!!!
